Design and Evaluation Framework for Modular Hybrid Battery Energy Storage Systems in Full-Electric Marine Applications

In the context of maritime transportation sector electrification, battery hybridization has been identified as a promising manner meeting critical requirements on energy and power density, well lifetime safety. Today, multiple topologies have identified, while there is not level playing field enabling comparison between different topologies. This study bridges this gap directly by proposing generic hybrid storage system (HBESS) design evaluation framework in full-electric marine applications that accounts for key topology conceptualization phase. doing so, generalized component models, such cell aging converter thermal are established. Additionally, given selected study, case comparing one baseline monotype two HBESS shown clear advantage hybridization. Furthermore, we find that, depending selection specific load scenario being considered, devices can also worsen performance indexes.
